iPhone randomly reboots! Here's how I fixed mine!

Ever wake up to a screen like this:

For me, it means an update was installed. But a few weeks back, it was happeningn EVERY FEW HOURS. It was driving me nuts and I was missing calls and messages from family and colleagues. NOT GOOD.

I tried to uninstall apps i used a lot. I tried a “hard reset.” Nothing was working. I was starting to shop for a new phone.

Then I remembered something: I keep my phone in my pocket. A LOT.

So I took out a flashlight and looked into the Lightning charging port. And what did I see?

a ton of lint!

I grabbed a sewing needle and worked out about a tablespoon of lint from my phones charging point. Small lint can have some electrostatic properties and if you have charging touch points in contact, I would suspect some hardware checks will malfunction.

I haven’t had a reset in days and I’m feeling pretty confident this helped fix it.

Try it yourself!

You’ll need:

  • a sewing needle or other thing pointy object. WARNING: sticking metal pointy things into electrical devices may damage, shock or harm you. The usual “don’t stick a fork in a toaster” rules apply. You might also scratch your finish if you miss the hole. BE CAREFUL.

  • your phone

  • a can of compressed air

  • a good lamp that you can point into the charger opening

  1. turn your phone OFF

  2. gently scrape out the lint

  3. blow it out with air

  4. turn on your phone and observe
